Pitch Black: Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex and the cards to chase
Pitch Black brought six Mega ex, led by Mega Darkrai ex and Mega Zeraora ex, and a heavy lean into Darkness types. The chase cards, the illustration rares and what’s in stock.
Pitch Black released worldwide on 17 July 2026, the fifth main expansion of the Mega Evolution era. Based on Japan’s Abyss Eye, it has 84 cards in the main set and 120 with the secret rares, and as the name suggests, it leans hard into Darkness-type Pokémon.
Six Mega ex
- Mega Darkrai ex, the face of the set, and its gold Mega Hyper Rare.
- Mega Zeraora ex, the set’s Lightning-type co-star.
- Mega Chandelure ex
- Mega Delphox ex
- Mega Slowbro ex
- Mega Excadrill ex
The set’s other Pokémon ex are Lurantis ex, Wailord ex, Rampardos ex and Morpeko ex.
The chase cards
At the top is the Mega Darkrai ex Mega Hyper Rare. Behind it are six special illustration rares: Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex and Morpeko ex, plus two Supporters, Gladion’s Final Battle and Gwynn. Mega Darkrai ex’s special illustration rare is close behind the gold on most want lists.
The illustration rares
The illustration rares are the affordable way into Pitch Black’s artwork, and they look great together on a binder page. These are in stock now:
Darkness types beyond Pitch Black
If you’re building a Darkness-type binder or deck, you don’t have to stop at this set. Ascended Heroes’ Mega Scrafty ex and Perfect Order’s Yveltal ex both fit right in:
